Place a small sample (2-5mg) of the substance you want to analyze in the provided plastic tube. If preferred, the test can be performed on a white ceramic surface for clearer results (e.g. kitchen plate). Add a drop of Simplest Ehrlich reagent to the sample and expect it to change colors.

The Ehrlich test confirms the presence of indole groups in a sample. LSD, DMT (ayahuasca), psilocybin and psilocin (mushrooms), AMT, 5MeO-DMT, 5-MeO-DIPT, 5-MEO-MIPT, 5-MEO-AMT, 4-ACO-DMT all contain indole groups in their respective molecules and will therefore react with this reagent. In order to distinguish among the above-mentioned indolic molecules, we highly recommend testing your sample with the Hofmann reagent as well. Upon reaction, the sample will gradually turn purple/magenta (see legend). The reaction can take a while to take place (up to 3 minutes), especially if the substance is impregnated in blotter paper.
